A face can give away so much, betraying our emotions for all to see. Sub-consciously we judge people based on appearances. But is there any value in the attention we pay to facial structure and expression? 'Face Value' is an exhibition of contemporary portraiture and figurative 2D art from a group of talented, emerging British artists, held in the ever-popular Blackfriars Arts Centre in Boston during September.

The Cambridgeshire-based Artist, Craig Kerrecoe, contributes, for the third time this year at Blackfriars, with a series of self-portraits from his new 'Black Box Project', the first time these innovative decoupage hybrid works have been exhibited anywhere in the country. Kerrecoes' work, frequently abstract, invariably focuses on the concept of identity. He seems driven by a desire to understand who he is and what makes him that person. Is he little more than a machine, programmed to function in an extremely specific way? Is his identity just an elaborate illusion, the result of billions of chemical reactions?

We are pleased to welcome the Brighton-based MA Artist Enzo Marra to Ovenden Contemporary. Working with undiluted oils on canvas, Marra's voyeuristic portraiture, whilst utterly contemporary, follows the traditions of german expressionism and the London school. Often considering his subjects from a slightly voyeuristic perspective, he leaves us with the feeling that we are watching someone without their knowledge. It's that voyeuristic tendency we all seem to have in common which forces us to keep looking at his paintings, compelling us to invade these moments of solitude. Occasionally though, for just a moment, you get the feeling you are the one being watched.
