We are very pleased to feature the distinctive abstracts of Geetha Alagirisamy from Cambridgeshire, fresh from 'As Yet Untitled', the well-received group show of new and emerging artists at Blackfriars Arts Centre in Boston, Lincolnshire. Geetha's striking work is an exploration of colour and texture, used abstractly to represent human emotions. Born and raised in Singapore to a Chinese mother and an Indian father, the well-travelled Alagirisamy endows her paintings with a richness and a vibrancy that reflects the cultural diversity she was exposed to when growing up. Whilst refusing to ʻexplainʼ or describe what she paints, Alagirisamy does allow her emotional state to dictate the composition and colours she uses.

The work of Derbyshire artist, Gareth Buxton, also featured in 'As Yet Untitled' at Blackfriars, is a response to a near fatal road traffic accident he experienced in 2004. Many of his paintings deal with decay, entropy and the passage of time, particularly relating to the human body. The inevitable failure of the human body is a preoccupation that he expresses in a variety of ways, including some beautifully moody landscapes. His earliest work is experimental, technically proficient and popular, relying on certain cliches, such as stormy land & seascapes to take those first steps on a somewhat brave & very engaging journey. Having dabbled with recreational painting prior to the accident, Buxton now relies on his increasingly elaborate form of expression as a catharsis.

The Cheshire based artist David Boardman features with his dynamic abstracts. David has a BA in Illustration from Manchester Metropolitan University and is regularly commissioned to produce bespoke paintings. He has recently completed a painting for Lola Cars based in Cambridgeshire. Boardman takes his lead from 'Futurist' painters like Duchamp and Severini and then journeys towards contemporary Graphic Design, via Pop Art. He uses text in his complex composition that is not merely superimposed, but embeds itself, actually facilitating the deconstruction of the image.
